Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) executives Zophia Brobio and Hyder Naqvi have switched positions after an executive meeting on July 26.

Brobio, formerly the president of RRRA, is now the vice-president (programming) and Naqvi, formerly the vice-president (programming), is now the president.

“We just found skill set-wise it just fit Hyder more to be doing more of the administrative stuff,” Brobio said. “I love doing the programs so we just thought it was a better fit.”

Naqvi said the change was made at an executive meeting between himself, Brobio, and vice-president (administration) Daniel Pollak, whose position did not change. He said the decision was unanimous.

“At RRRA you run as a slate and you win as a slate so it’s still in the spirit of selecting a team that’s able to work together to accomplish the goals,” Naqvi said.

RRRA’s constitution was changed on July 26 to allow for executives to switch roles if they have the approval of two-thirds of council. Executive members assume the power of the council when it is not in session, such as during the current summer months, according to the constitution.

This change to the constitution was approved by RRRA council on the same day it approved the swapping of Brobio’s and Naqvi’s positions.

Naqvi said one of their main concerns when making the switch was how students would feel about executives being in positions they were not elected to.

“We thought about it, and it really doesn’t make a difference with how the organization runs because we’re working together all the time and helping each other out.”
