Frost Week warmed up students for the winter semester with a bit of x-rated hypnotism Jan. 16 at Fenn Lounge.
Adult-only hypnotist Tony Lee was the first performer slotted for Frost Week, a series of events to welcome students back for the winter semester.
During the show, Lee convinced audience members that they were orangutans. In another act, he had them bring their friends on stage and gel their hair. The “x-rated” portion came in when he had audience members mime out sexual acts.
Frost Week’s festivities also included magic shows and the first CU Unplugged student concert Jan. 17, a coffeehouse held at Rooster’s.
“It is celebrating the success of the fall term and welcomes students back,” said Student Experience Office co-ordinator William Johnson.
Students may generally need a couple of weeks to get back into the routine of things, which is why mid-January is a good time to hold these types of events, Johnson said.
“[Frost Week] made me feel relaxed, have fun and even go a little crazy,” said fourth-year communications student Ivy Yan.
She said it also made her like Carleton a bit more because of events like the IKEA shopping trip, which she participated in Jan. 12.
Off all the week-long events, the biggest was undoubtedly the Capital Hoops Classic between the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens basketball teams at Scotiabank Place, Johnson said. Frost Week was scheduled to coincide with the Jan. 18 game.
“We also want to get students to think of Carleton [as] a place [where] they want to spend time and have fun.”
