Four of Canada’s top stand-up headliners are headed to the capital for a night of comedy.

Jen Grant, Christina Walkinshaw, Rebecca Kohler and Erica Sigurdson will be performing My Jokes are Up Here at the Ottawa Little Theatre on Sept. 12.

Grant says it’s unusual to see all four of them together in one show—it’s a truly unique comedy experience.

“This has never happened. I’ve never done a show with all four of us, ever,” she said. “It’s really not that common for me to work with one of them, let alone three of them, because we’re all headliners.”

“Having all of my friends on a show is the best way to work. You get to work with people you like,” she said.

The four women are big names in the comedy business nationally and many of them have roots right here in the capital.

“We all have a connection here, especially Rebecca, Christina, and I. I grew up in Ottawa. Christina went to Carleton and started doing stand up at Yuk Yuk’s on Albert Street in Ottawa. Rebecca Kohler grew up in Ottawa. And I think that Erica, although she has never spent a lot of time in Ottawa . . . there are a lot of [CBC’s] The Debaters fans in Ottawa and they’ll want to come out and see her,” Grant explained.

Grant, also a Carleton graduate, has performed at many major comedy festivals. She has been on CBC’s The Debaters and released her CD Nobody Likes Your Homemade Wine last year.

Rebecca Kohler has also taken the stage at comedy festivals across the country and has worked as a writer for The Ron James Show, Scaredy Squirrel, and This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Erica Sigurdson is best known for her many appearances on CBC’s The Debaters but has also performed in various comedy festivals, TV specials and more.

“[The audience] should look forward to peeing their pants—because that’s going to happen. They should look forward to a solid night of laughter. It’s going to be powerful,” Walkinshaw said.

“It’s going to be the hottest night of comedy in Ottawa’s entire history,” she said. “Maybe I’m over-exaggerating a little so more people come to the show, but I think it’s going to be an epic night of comedy.”

Grant said the show is special to her for a few different reasons.

“It’s a real celebration of lots of really positive things: coming back home, getting to work with my friends, being in a position where we can produce this show and work together is really amazing,” Grant said.
