The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team will be very well represented at the Pan American Games Oct. 26-30.
Four Ravens cracked Team Canada’s roster for the games, which began Oct. 14 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Forward Tyson Hinz, guards Cole Hobin and Philip Scrubb, and head coach Dave Smart will represent their country in the hopes of emerging victorious on the international stage.
None of the players are strangers to international play. Scrubb participated in the International Basketball Federation U19 World Championships in Latvia this summer, while Hinz and Hobin were important cogs in Team Canada’s silver medal performance at the 26th Summer Universiade in August.
Smart’s record speaks for itself. Under his leadership, the Ravens have won seven Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) titles in nine years and have only lost six regular season matches in the past five years. Smart has also served as an assistant coach for the Canadian men’s national team.
The Ravens players will be joined by another familiar face as Warren Ward, a 6’5” guard from the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, also made the Canadian squad.
