This year’s Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) is now the largest student council on campus, following its largest election turnout in the past three years, according to CASG president Alexander Golovko.

CASG elections for program representative positions closed Oct. 17, according to the organization’s website.

Golovko said the elections went pretty well, and an extensive promotion campaign resulted in way more candidates than in the past three years.

He said there were 85 representatives elected out of a possible 115. CASG will be looking to fill out the remaining positions before November, he added.

The main goal of the organization this year was to raise awareness of the organization, not only for first-year students, but for the upper years as well, said Ruba Khan, CASG vice-president (internal).

Despite our efforts of reaching out [to upper-year students], there were a lot of first-years who were interested in the organization, Khan said.

The amount of program representative positions filled is an improvement from last year. Khan said.

[We’re] very positive about it and just excited for the first meeting to come up.
