Ottawa-based designers Jana Hanzel and Emilia Torabi kicked off the third and final day of Ottawa Fashion Week 2011 with a colourful and tribal themed show Oct. 1 at the Ottawa Convention Centre.

The fresh colour palette and interesting prints were perfect for the summer season they were made to represent. The models paraded down the runway in beautiful feathered fascinators to match the fun spirit of the collection.

Carleton graduate Rachel Sin and Samuel Dong were definitely the standouts of the night. Sin’s well-constructed cocktail dresses and blazers were a hit with the crowd, for good reason. Sin showcased her architectural background with cage-like cutouts and exaggerated collars in her collection.

Sin’s collection featured a palette of white, cream, black and bright coral, which popped on the models as they walked down the runway. Ottawa’s own top model and Elle Canada cover girl Herieth Paul closed the show for Sin.

Dong’s show was a vision in florals and flowing fabrics. Each piece was feminine and pretty ― perfect for a summer garden party.  The palette of pinks, purples, sky blues and greens made for a delightful and cohesive collection.

Overall, the weekend was a success with great showings by all of the designers, including DeMoyo, Symbiose, McCaffrey, and Jeanne Beker.  It was great to see Ottawa’s fashion crowd supporting our nation’s talent, and looking oh-so-stylish while doing so.

See you next season.
