My building, Stormont House, is not directly affected by the construction work being done on campus, but my window looks out on the new addition they are putting onto the caf.

Consequently, my roommate and I are woken up every morning at 7 a.m. by the bricklayers, who continue to work throughout the day, and bobcats in need of some WD-40.

This means I can't come back to my room in between classes to read, study, or catch up on any other work, in which I am behind. While it is exceedingly easy to move myself and my work down to a picnic table with a lovely view of the canal, it is not easy to sleep through the work.

Although sleep might not be a valued exercise by the university, one could make a fair argument that it is just, if not more, important than overloading your brain studying. I understand that the construction is not an easily avoidable problem, but just a little recognition from the university about this issue would be reassuring.

Having said all that, I do believe we have a beautiful campus and have had (almost) nothing but good experiences since I have been here. I am looking forward to continuing my education and seeing the finished product of all this construction work.
