Four former Ontario Hockey League (OHL) veterans will be joining the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team next season.
The new players, Scott Tanksi, Mike Lomas, Matt Stanisz and Brent Sullivan, all provide unique depth that the Ravens hope will bring them closer to winning the Ontario University Athletics University Cup championship next season.
Tanksi, who played for the Brampton Battalion, brings some major league experience after having attended the previous two Columbus Blue Jackets training camps, where he said the chance to train alongside NHL players helped refine his all-around skills.
“I got the opportunity in my first year to go all the way to the main camp. I got to play with guys like Rick Nash and see their work ethic and it gave me a perspective on my own game,” Tanksi said in a press release.
Lomas, who finished the 2011 season with the Sudbury Wolves after playing for four teams, is expected to bring an offensive punch to the team. He scored 206 points in his 304 career OHL games.
Stanisz provides crucial playoff experience — he helped lead the Owen Sound Attack to an OHL Championship and an appearance in the Memorial Cup this past season.
Ravens head coach Marty Johnston expects Sullivan, a native of Carp, Ont., to bring a physical-presence to the blueline, after amassing 129 penalty minutes last season with the Sault Ste Mary Greyhounds.
"We are excited about the impact our recruits will have on and off the ice this season," Johnston said.
