With seven returning players and a group of promising new recruits, the Carleton women’s basketball team had the right mixture of experience and youth necessary for a successful season.

The final result would prove to be déjà vu for the team: a defeat in the quarter-finals of the OUA East playoffs.

However, the team did see a six-win improvement over their previous year’s record, finishing this season with a record-breaking record of 14-8.

Fourth-year veterans Tanya Perry and Ines Jelic were sought after to provide leadership on the team.

The regular season was one of ups and downs for the Ravens.

In addition to defeating cross-town rival University of Ottawa twice, Carleton had two separate four-game winning streaks.

However, close losses were the story of the year for the team. Their eight losses came by an average of 3 points.

Entering the OUA playoffs, the team defeated Queens University 53-42 and would face the Ottawa Gee-Gees once again.

The game was a close-fought battle that would come down to the fourth quarter.

Carleton would be without the services of Perry, who was injured after coming down for a rebound in the third.

With U of O controlling the boards, Carleton had difficulty establishing an offensive rhythm, and would lose the match 55-49.

Despite the quarter-final exit, several players were honoured with post-season awards.

Jelic was named First Team OUA East All Star, while Perry was named to the Second Team and collected the OUA East Defensive Player of the Year award.

First year guards Alyson Bush and Kendall MacLeod were both named to the OUA East All-Rookie team.

With a marked improvement from the previous season, to go along with a core of talented young players, the Carleton women’s basketball team will surely be in the playoff hunt next season.
