The Carleton women’s water polo team dove into the 2008-2009 season from great heights but didn’t quite make it back up there.

As the two-time reigning champs, the Ravens were the team to beat – and unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened.

The Ravens had an undefeated streak going for a while but couldn’t see it through to the finish line.

Despite the best efforts of skilled veterans like fifth-year powerhouse Rachel Baxter, who scored 34 points by the end of the season, and the team’s top-notch goalkeeper Laura Catana, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues snatched away the girls’ title with a 13-9 win during the final game at the OUA championships.

The Ravens walked away from the season with a 7-1-0 record, ready to recharge for 2009-10. With quite a few players graduating this year, next year’s team could bring a whole new dynamic to the league.
