Carleton’s former director of university communications is moving to a new office—specifically, Stephen Harper’s.

Jason MacDonald replaced Andrew MacDougall as the director of communications in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He will be the eighth person to take up the post since Harper took office.

Before taking up his post at the PMO, MacDonald worked for Conservative MP Bernard Valcourt, who is the minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and represents the Madawaska-Restigouche riding in New Brunswick, according to Parlinfo.

MacDonald served as Carleton’s communications director from 2009 to 2012. Carleton president Roseann Runte said via email that MacDonald is a “very intelligent, talented, dedicated, hard-working individual.”

During his time at Carleton, MacDonald represented the university on a variety of issues, including a narrowly avoided faculty and staff strike in November 2010 and several sexual assaults on campus from 2011 to 2012.
