Carleton released a new strategy for increasing sustainability and environmental awareness on campus May 21 for the next decade. The report included recommendations in twelve main areas. Here are the highlights:
– Create a $1 million “Green Revolving Fund” to replenish annually and fund student- and faculty-submitted environmental projects.
– Assemble a “Green Team” of students, faculty, and staff to promote eco-initiatives.
– Decrease paper usage by encouraging electronic course packs and double-sided theses.
– Work with student unions to establish a student levy for environmental sustainability.
– Conduct audits for energy, computer waste, science lab practices, and Dining Services food and supply sourcing.
– Increase the diversion of waste away from landfills to 60 percent by 2015.
