The Charlatan (TC): Why did you decide to come to Carleton University?
Jeff Hayes (JH): Home was a big factor. I’m from Ottawa, so it was a big factor for me. The [hockey] program here at Carleton, they’re starting to get a lot better. You’ve got a lot of guys from the [Ontario Hockey League] and the [Canadian Hockey League], so I think we’ve got a good thing going here. It’s something I wanted to be a part of.
TC: What is your best hockey experience so far?
JH: I’ve had so many good memories from playing junior hockey. You form a bond with your team and it kind of turns into your family away from home. I’ve made a lot of great friendships out of it.
My best memory, though, would have to be being named captain last year in Oshawa for the Generals. It was big thrill for me, especially when you look at all the history of guys that were captain there before. It was a big honour.
TC: What are your goals for the season?
JH: I haven’t really set any specific goals personally, but I hope the team can make it to the nationals this year, and hopefully I can contribute as much as I can. We’ll see what happens.
TC: What has been the best part about being a member of the Carleton Ravens so far?
JH: Meeting the guys, and being part of the tradition here at Carleton. We’ve got a really good group of guys here, and if it keeps up like this, we’ll have a lot of fun. Hopefully we can keep it going.
