Undivided was declared the winner of the Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) elections Jan. 24.

Undivided beat their only opponent, A Team You Can Trust, by 606 votes to 491 votes, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) David Valentin.

The new RRRA executives are president Will Cathcart, vice-president (administration) Arif Jaffer and vice-president (programming) Jessica Barlow.

The three winning candidates were thrilled at their victory.

“I think overwhelmed would be an understatement,” Jaffer said. “I’m trying to keep my composure right now, it’s really not working . . . the fact that we came out on top is great.”

Another slate in the election, Rez-Solutions, was disqualified early Jan. 24 morning after being charged by the CEO with 11 electoral violations.

The violations included “two violations of voter bribery, one with liquor, overspending in the RRRA Election and failure to abide by candidate contracts,” according to the CEO’s official rulings.

Although Rez-Solutions was removed from the ballot, they believe the disqualification to be unfair and have continued to petition for a new election.

Cathcart does not anticipate another election.

“If you look at the actual rules, the one clear thing that will result in a disqualification is going over budget and that is what occurred very blatantly,” Cathcart said.

“As far as I’m concerned, there should not be a [another election].”
