The Carleton Ravens men's hockey team have added Brampton Battalion assistant captain Brad Albert to the fold for the 2010-11 season.
Albert, who hails from Ottawa, played his minor hockey in the Nepean Raiders system. The 6’0” defenceman will complement an already solid Ravens back end, who allowed only 87 goals against this past season, good enough for third in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East.
In addition to his play on the ice, Ravens head coach Fred Parker also speaks highly of the character he expects Albert to bring to the table.
“When you talk about quality hockey players and quality people in the OHL, Brad’s name came up in every conversation,” Parker said in a written statement.
“He’s been an important part of winners and he’s been a leader on one of the best junior franchises in Canada. With the character and ability Brad brings, this marks another huge step in the evolution of CU hockey competing at a national level.”
Albert is now Parker’s third recruit for the 2010-11 season, as the Ravens have already added a pair of former Oshawa Generals: Jeff Hayes and Tyler Taylor. Parker said there may be more on the way as Derek Wells, Jared Cipparone, Ryan Medel and Mark Smith won’t be returning to the team.
When September rolls around, Parker said he believes the Ravens squad will be better than ever.
“We’re going to ice the most talented team we’ve had here so far,” he said. “Whether that will correspond into on-the-ice cohesion, I’m not sure, but it should be the most exciting line-up we’ve got coming.”
The addition of Albert will be made official later today.
