Sam Heaton, a second-year political science major, is running for vice-president (student services) on the "United Carleton" slate.

Heaton would be responsible for the nine service centres available to students on campus. He said he has been heavily involved with these centres in the past and, as such, has come to understand the ins and outs of how they work.

“I have gained both the knowledge and the sensitivity to bring to this position,” Heaton said.

Heaton said he has plans for initiatives to not only improve the services, but also to reach students who need the services the most. He said he plans to do this by diversifying programs, having co-ordinators go to classrooms to talk to students, and to integrate service centres within Carleton’s library to allow people access to material they might not otherwise have.

When asked what students should know about him, Heaton said: “I want students to know that I used to edit the Leveller [a left-wing journal on campus] and I hope to bring the same feisty prose to my work with CUSA.”

Heaton describes United Carleton as a team that can bring a great deal of experience to the student government.

“[We] all share a passion for the student movement and share the same goals of empowering individuals, clubs and societies on campus.”
