Khaldoon Bushnaq is a fourth-year electrical engineering student running for vice-president (internal) with the “United Carleton” slate.

He said he hopes to address the concerns of Carleton’s clubs and societies regarding funding and designated space on campus. Bushnaq explained that the funding budget for clubs and societies cannot be increased or decreased without a referendum

“I will make sure that I reduce the costs in clubs and societies, and this is how there will be more savings,” Bushnaq said.

He said he plans to eliminate administration fees and provide clubs with access to locker space and technical equipment for their meetings.

As a programming co-ordinator for the International Student Centre, Bushnaq also said he has provided a voice for international students. He said he believes these students contribute a lot to the Carleton community, but they are not provided with a “decent health insurance plan.” He promises to lobby for the inclusion of international students in OHIP.

Bushnaq said he is also lobbying for the availability of Halal food to accommodate Muslim students on campus. As an active member of the Muslim Students’ Association, he labelled this as a priority.

“Muslim students on campus should be given the opportunity to choose their proper food,” he said.

Bushnaq said he has been active on campus from day one. He also said he has experience in managing budgets and lobbying in large-scale campaigns, including the Drop Fees initiative against increased tuition fees.
