Discrepancy over when and if a campus safety report was filed about the hole in the Carleton University Students’ Association elections office hallway remains unsolved.
Chelsea Dunn, chair of the electoral board, said a witness to the incident didn’t come forward until Feb. 11, once voting had already started.
The electoral board, according to Dunn, was scheduled to meet with chief electoral officer Heather Murley and presidential candidate Bruce Kyereh-Addo for different reasons Feb. 12. At the meeting, Dunn said Murley didn’t inform Kyereh-Addo of the pending offence against him, but told the board after he had left.
Dunn said a report to campus safety wasn’t filed until Feb. 17 because the witness did not want to sign their name to the statement.
“A report has been opened,” Dunn said. “Safety has documented the actual hole in the wall.”
However, Len Boudreault, director of university safety, said they had only been received an anonymous tip about the hole through their website on Feb. 24 and were investigating the validity of that tip.
“It’s still unclear who witnessed and who caused it,” he said.
Murley confirmed she submitted a report to campus safety with safety officer Alicia Pool.
Dunn said it isn’t mandated in the electoral code to file safety reports.
“This is not a court,” Dunn said. “This is school politics. This is a university setting. This is students’ safety.”
