As thousands have been affected by Jan. 12’s disastrous earthquake in Haiti, Carleton’s department of student affairs said it is aiming to provide aid to students.
Carleton sent out an e-mail to its Haitian students to offer sympathy.
“If they need any assistance we can provide it in the form of counselling . . . in the event that they were really traumatized by the situation,” said Ryan Flannagan, director of student affairs.
Flannagan said the university is also offering to connect affected students with an academic advisor.
Although no students have contacted him thus far, Flannagan said about a dozen students have expressed their interest in volunteering through the university to raise money for relief efforts for Haiti.
The university will hold two events to raise money for the Haiti relief fund.
The first event is a cultural talent show Jan. 21, starting at noon in the atrium. The second is a garage sale that will be held outside the gym on Jan. 23.
Any students who have been affected by the crisis in Haiti are encouraged to e-mail Flannagan at ryan_flannagan@carleton.ca.
