A faulty sprinkler caused water to flood parts of the sixth floor in Lennox and Addington House April 11, according to the department of housing and conference services.
Dave Sterritt, Carleton’s director of housing, said although the cause of the problem was unknown, it wasn’t due to the fact that the building is new.
“We’ve never had a problem like this before,” he said.
The water caused no damage to any electrical systems in the building, Sterritt said, adding that the priority was cleaning up the flooding.
“The bigger problem, which has been dealt with, is cleaning up the water,” he said.
Several students in rooms close to the one where the incident occurred will be relocated, Sterritt said.
Since students moved into the unfinished residence building in September, Lennox and Addington has been the subject of many complaints.
A resident was sent to the hospital in September after suffering three nosebleeds she suspected were due to poor air quality in the building. Cloudy water, problems with the air conditioning system, and leakages are among the other issues that have been raised throughout the year.
