The Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) elections office said voting days are cancelled and will be moved to a later date to give candidates adequate time to campaign.
The voting days were scheduled for March 9 and 10, after they were delayed once due to a lack of interested candidates.
The elections office has not shared a revised electoral calendar.
Chief electoral officer Nicholas Gil Ocampo told the Charlatan they will be rescheduling the voting days since “candidates have not had the opportunity to campaign for the time that they were promised was going to be available under the electoral code.”
A blackout period was announced on March 4 in response to a number of candidates suspending their campaign in light of sexual assault allegations against a CUSA presidential candidate.
On March 6, Ocampo and deputy electoral officer Qusai Yusuf contacted candidates about extending the blackout period, during which presidential and councillor candidates are barred from campaigning in-person or virtually.
The presidential debate, scheduled for March 7, was also postponed indefinitely.
