The fundraising committee responsible for bringing back a Carleton Ravens varsity football team has secured about $3.5 million of the university's $5 million benchmark, Carleton's director of athletics and recreation Jennifer Brenning said this morning.

If all goes to plan, Carleton will submit its intent to enter the OUA in May 2011, so they can join the league in 2012, Brenning said.

Brenning added that the department has not yet decided which women's sport will make the jump to varsity along with the football team in 2012, but she singled out the women's rugby team as a possibility.
