Women’s soccer hires new head coach

The Carleton Ravens introduced Dominic Oliveri, fomer 2013 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Coach of the Year as the new head coach of the women’s soccer team on Jan. 23. Oliveri previously coached the Ottawa Fury FC women’s team and Algonquin Thunder, achieving success for both clubs from 2005 to 2016. He has a combined eight W-League division titles, two provincial championships, eight Top 3 W-League finishes, and four Coach of the Year Awards. Ravens men’s lacrosse welcomes new coach

After a disappointing 2016 season going 1-11, the Ravens men’s lacrosse team has welcomed a new coach and general manager as they head into the season. Stuart Paynter will be taking over the GM responsibility alongside new coach Jamie Forster, who has a lot to offer on the offensive side of the game. Paynter and Forster have worked together on the board of directors for Nepean Lacrosse in the past. Forster, together with his wife and children, has a long history of coaching experience over the past 20 years with heavy involvement and dedication to the sport. “We’re a big lacrosse family, a lot of volunteer hours . . . thousands of volunteer hours. Rob Smart filling in as head coach

Rob Smart is taking over the head coach position of Carleton’s varsity men’s basketball team while his predecessor and uncle, Dave Smart, takes a leave of absence for the 2015-2016 season. “Dave raised the bar for Ravens athletics and has led the way by developing highly successful student-athletes,” said Jennifer Brenning, director of Carleton Athletics, in a statement. “We are pleased to support Dave with his request and are encouraged that Rob has agreed to serve as interim coach, providing a smooth transition as the Ravens prepare for another successful season.” Dave Smart and Carleton alike have been emphatic that taking the upcoming season off for professional development affirms his commitment to the Ravens and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) basketball. Gee-Gees head coach resigns, joins reborn Ravens as offensive co-ordinator

It sure didn’t take long for Steve Sumarah to renew the rivalry between the Carleton Ravens and University of Ottawa Gee-Gees football teams. In one of his first big moves as head coach, Sumarah and the newly revived Ravens football program announced the hiring of J.P. Asselin as the team’s offensive co-ordinator April 19 — less than an hour after the Gee-Gees announced Asselin’s resignation as their head coach.
