Over the last few years, Jess Moskaluke has become a dominant force in Canada’s country music scene. Getting her start in her hometown Langenburg, Sask., Moskaluke also became the first female Canadian country singer to achieve platinum since Shania Twain with her 2014 hit “Cheap Wine and Cigarettes.” The Charlatan caught up with Moskaluke ahead of her performance in Ottawa at the Grey Cup festival to talk about her new album, Past The Past, as well as her other recent successes. CityFolk wraps up second year at Lansdowne

Ottawa’s annual CityFolk Festival took over Lansdowne Park from Sept. 15 to 18. Throughout the four days of the festival, music poured from three stages across the grounds: the main City stage, the BMO stage, and the RavenLaw stage. The music felt constant, comforting and never-ending. Most attendees seemed genuinely satisfied to be seeing anyone and everyone that was playing. Michael Mariana, a first-year biology student at Carleton University, said CityFolk was a great addition to the frosh packages and gave him a better sense of the Ottawa community. “I thought CityFolk was an amazing experience and it brought our community together. CityFolk Day Four: Bringing down the house with Dean Brody

CityFolk’s last day kicked off much sunnier than the previous day, with people funnelling in to catch the festival’s final shows. The beautiful night was more than matched by the great music that was played all night long to close out the four day long fest. Much like the night before, Fred Penner played a super fun set at the BMO stage to a crowd composed of many of the same demographics as the day before. Canadian country music star Dean Brody will be performing this year at Ottawa’s CityFolk Festival.
