Drug facilitated sexual assault: what you should know before Frosh 2017

If you have ever hesitated before taking a sip of the drink you left with a friend at a bar, you are not alone. Drug facilitated sexual assault (DFSA) happens more than you think, and it’s four times more likely to occur to someone while they’re completing their post-secondary education, according to Carleton University’s Equity Services webpage. Carole Miller, a crisis counsellor for the Ottawa Police Service, has spoken with many people who have experienced sexual assault, but said it happens more often in universities where experimentation with alcohol and sexuality is already happening. “It’s a tough subject, and normal rites of passage, normal, healthy experimentation is happening anyways,” she said. Opinion: Drop Rick Ross from Pandamonium

Though it’s definitely ironic, I can’t claim to appreciate trap music ironically. As a feminist, it’s difficult to justify how I can enjoy a genre of Southern hip-hop that chronically objectifies women, both in song lyrics and music videos. I don’t know why I think it’s acceptable to sing, “All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho” at the top of my lungs. That statement, quite literally, refers to women as an object. Following CUSA’s announcement to make Rick Ross the upcoming Pandamonium concert headliner… And the allegedly pro-rape lyrics in Ross’s song, U.O.E.N.O, reaction from all corners and of all opinions has flooded social media. GSA (president) Kelly Black waded in with this tweet: The Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) is also taking an opposing stance.
