CUPE 2424 holds information picket

CUPE 2424, Carleton’s union that represents around 850 administrative, technical, and library staff, held an information picket Tuesday morning in regards to ongoing negotiations with the university. Pickets were held at both the Colonel By and Bronson Avenue entrances. Carleton posted a press release to alert students and faculty about the picket line and traffic delays that would result. They also said negotiations with CUPE 2424 began in July and are still ongoing. “The parties have been bargaining in good faith and have made progress on many issues. Bargaining is scheduled to continue on Jan. 9, 2018, with the assistance of a provincially-appointed conciliator,” the press release said. CUPE 2424 votes to support strike action

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 2424 (CUPE 2424) voted 93 per cent in support of the union’s negotiating team up to and including strike action, on Oct. 16.  According to its website, CUPE 2424 represents more than 850 administrative, technical and library workers at Carleton. An Oct. 20 message on the website said more than 63 per cent of members cast their votes. “The message is clear. We will not stand for major concessions,” the post stated. Skilled trade workers at Carleton picket for control over pensions

CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 910 and other labour unions at Carleton held an information picket in a collective effort to protect pensions for all university employees on Oct. 16. CUPE Local 910 is a skilled trade union whose members work for the Department of Facilities Management and Planning at Carleton. These workers maintain the residence buildings, classroom temperatures, and also clear snow on the walkways on campus and salt them. GSA, CUASA, OPSEO, and CUPE 4600 call to open Board of Governors

Various Carleton student and teaching unions have released a call for Carleton to open the Board of Governors (BoG) to students and union executives. In a news release published online, the letter said the groups were seeking to change the way the board was distributed and push to be “more democratic, not less.” “We seek reform of the democratic procedures of the university . . . so that the Carleton community may finally get the Board that it deserves,” the letter reads.
