Fulbright Canada sets partnership record at Carleton

A new collaboration between Carleton and Fulbright Canada has set a new record for the most Fulbright research chairs established at a single Canadian university. According to Fulbright’s website, it is a not-for-profit organization that works to foster strong relationships between Canadian and American universities through international student exchange programs. Scheduled to start in 2018 and last for 25 years, the creation of four new visiting chair positions will include chairs in entrepreneurship, environmental science, public affairs, and arts and social sciences. The program is estimated to cost $16 million and will be budgeted equally between Carleton and Fulbright Canada, according to Ryan Davies, the director of advancement communications at Carleton. RRRA confident Board of Governors will pass levy referendum

The Rideau River Residence Association’s (RRRA) March 31 referendum to increase the association’s levy by $5 a semester, tied to inflation, passed with a voter turnout of four per cent. This means the levy will increase from $60 to $70 next academic year. Ballot boxes were placed in every residence building, where voting took place all day March 31. “We haven’t had a referendum in 15 years so there isn’t a normal voting period for that,” RRRA president Will Verschuren said. The residence association executive has stated they need to recuperate lost profits from a new law banning the sale of tobacco products on university campuses. Carleton hosts TEDx at Carleton with 12 future-inspired lectures

On the evening of April 6, the Carleton community gathered together to discuss and listen to fellow students’ ideas around how to innovate for the future. John Mesman and Tanvir Janmohamed, the president and vice-president (academic) respectively of the Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG), along with a team planned the 2015 Carleton TEDx conference centred around the theme “Future World.” TEDx Carleton is a part of the popular TED Talk series, but organized independently—as indicated by the “x” in the name—of the TED conference series.
