Carleton hosts first OUA figure skating competition

The Carleton Ice House stands were packed on Nov. 23, as the Ravens competitive figure skating club hosted the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Fall Invitational. The competition was the first invitational ever to be hosted at Carleton. Led by head coach Laura Kilpatrick, the Ravens’ program consists of 29 skaters overall, 21 of which are competitive skaters. The Ravens hosted 10 visiting universities from across Ontario at the invitational. “Being able to show where we train and what our department is like here, and also to see the girls on the team act as the representatives for the school [was a proud moment],” Kilpatrick said. Carleton figure skating wraps up season with annual show

The Carleton Ravens competitive figure skating team concluded their 2016-17 season with their End of Year Show, hosted on March 11 at the Ice House. With over 100 people in attendance, the team’s final performance gave skaters the opportunity to showcase their talent and skills practiced throughout the season. “It was emotional for me and some of my friends, because we are graduating,” said fourth-year skater Sofija Mrdja. As team captain for the past two years, Mrdja said she felt that with several returning veteran skaters, the rookies of the team had a strong support system going into the season. “That was one of my goals being captain, is to make sure that everyone was motivated,” she said. Men’s hockey beats Laurentian in double overtime

– File photo The Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team emerged victorious this weekend, defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs by a score of 3-2 in double overtime at the Ice House on Jan. 14. The Ravens started off the first period strong, with Carleton forward Michael McNamee scoring the first goal of the game with a backhand shot only four minutes into the game. Water polo teams bring home medals

Both the Carleton Ravens men’s and women’s water polo teams brought home medals after competing in their final tournaments of the season this past weekend at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont. The men’s team competed in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship, winning their semi-final game against the McMaster Marauders on Nov. 26 with a final score of 5-3. The men headed into the finals on Nov. 27 with hopes of defending their 2015 OUA championship title, but lost to the University of Toronto (U of T) Varsity Blues with a final score of 7-0.
